I have
been playing the mountain dulcimer since my
introduction to the instrument in May of 1999. My wife, Marti (or Poor
Marti to
some of you) and I were visiting with some friends from Minnesota in
Shipshewana, Indiana where I purchased my first instrument on a
“dare” by a
Navy buddy’s wife. I
bought it at Simple
Sounds, Indiana – an all walnut McSpadden.
I
attended my first
dulcimer workshop/festival
in January of 2000 (Kentucky Music week Winter Weekend). I have performed in
various venues in Ohio,
Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and West Virginia. I
have
also performed in Nursing Homes, churches, and AARP meetings and other
events
in the Hamilton/Oxford, Ohio area. I
am
the author of a 1-3-5 tab book entitled, “New”
Old Hymns and have
recently released my first CD, entitled It’s About
Time. I also have two other tab books available: The Mountain Dulcimer Plays Hank Williams and The Mountain Dulcimer Plays Patsy Cline.
On a
more personal note, I was born in October of 1942. I
graduated from Hamilton
Garfield High
school
in 1960 and served in the U.S. Navy between 1960 -1963. I
was aboard the USS Columbus (CG-12) for two
years. I hold a
degree from the
University of Cincinnati (1970). I
worked at Procter and Gamble for 27 ½ years before retiring
in 1998. I
have also written several commentaries on various books of the Bible and
have written two books documenting the lives of two WWII veterans.
